How to Play with Friends in Monster Hunter Rise

At a glance

Join the same compatible-platform lobby, accept a Hub Quest from the Quest Board, then ready up before the host departs.

Create or join a lobby

Check that your platforms can play together and that everyone has the same game update. In Kamura, talk to Senri the Mailman, also shown as the Courier.

  1. Choose Play Online.
  2. The host selects Create a Lobby.
  3. Friends use Find Lobby or Search by Lobby ID to join. A lobby holds up to four players.

On Nintendo Switch, online play requires Nintendo Switch Online. For nearby Switch systems, use Local Play instead of online lobby search.

Accept the same quest

  1. The host accepts a Gathering Hub quest.
  2. Other players open the Quest Board, choose Join Hub Quest, and select the host’s quest.
  3. Eat, change equipment and prepare items before setting your status to Ready. You cannot keep eating or changing equipment after readying up.
  4. Wait for the host to depart. Check that your teammates appear in the same quest.

Joining a lobby does not automatically accept its posted quest. A quest already underway must allow joining and you must meet its entry requirements.

Lobby, Join Request and Village Quests

Village Quests are single-player. A Join Request invites players from other lobbies into a Hub Quest; it is not required when your intended friends are already in your lobby. Join Requests do not work for Village Quests or Local Play.

If you cannot see a friend’s quest, check the lobby, quest type, entry requirements and platform compatibility first. A Lobby ID cannot bypass platform restrictions.
