Start with the symptom
| What is happening? | First check |
|---|---|
| You cannot find a friend’s lobby | Compatible platform family, same game version and lobby search conditions |
| You are in the same lobby but cannot hunt together | Hub or Elgado quest accepted through the Quest Board |
| No one arrives through Join Request | The quest was accepted with an online Join Request enabled |
| A Village quest stays solo | Village Quests do not support multiplayer |
This checklist covers the original console and PC editions. Use the Netflix mobile guide for that separate release.
Recreate the connection deliberately
- Check the crossplay compatibility table. Having “PC” on both devices does not establish that Steam and the Windows Store edition can connect.
- Update both games to the same version.
- At the Courier, have one player create a lobby and share its ID. Have the other search by that ID instead of relying on broad filters. A lobby holds up to four players.
- Post a compatible Hub or Elgado quest. Other players must accept it at the Quest Board and ready up; merely standing in the lobby is not quest acceptance.
On Nintendo Switch, online multiplayer also requires Nintendo Switch Online. Do not apply that subscription requirement to Steam or other platforms.
Lobby, Join Request and local play are different
A lobby is the shared group. A Join Request opens an online Hub quest to additional players; it is not a way to make a Village quest multiplayer and is unavailable for local multiplayer.
If a request gets no response, it does not by itself prove a connection failure. For a planned friend session, test the direct lobby-and-Quest-Board workflow above first.
If these checks do not resolve it
Record the platform/store on both sides, displayed game version, exact error message and whether the failure occurs while entering a lobby or joining a quest. Those details narrow the next support step. Avoid deleting saves or installing a matchmaking mod as a first response to an unidentified error.
