How to Get and Equip Layered Armor in Monster Hunter Rise

At a glance

Reach HR8 to access ordinary base-game layered armor crafting at the Smithy. Forge a piece, then equip it through Item Box → Layered Armor Settings.

What layered armor changes

Layered armor changes your appearance. Your normal armor still determines defense, resistances and skills.

Already owning a bonus or special layered set is different from unlocking ordinary base-game layered armor crafting.

Unlock and craft base-game layered armor

  1. Reach Hunter Rank 8, after the base-game Hunter Rank cap is removed. This means HR8, not Hub 8★ quests.
  2. Visit the Smithy and open layered armor crafting.
  3. Check the piece’s cost. Ordinary pieces require Outfit Vouchers, their listed materials and money.
  4. Forge the pieces you want.

Equip the appearance

Open Item Box → Layered Armor Settings, then select individual pieces or a set. Your hunter’s appearance changes while the performance of your normal equipped armor remains in effect.

Master Rank layered armor

Sunbreak’s Master Rank layered armor uses Outfit Voucher+ and has separate progression requirements. Owning the expansion does not instantly unlock every Master Rank layered set.
