Monster Hunter Rise Rampage Guide: Gates and Counter Signals

At a glance

Defend the final gate, stop Gate Crashers and switch from installations to your weapon during a Counter Signal. Know which threat must be slain.

Defend the gate before chasing damage

A Rampage fails if the final gate is destroyed. Watch what each monster is attacking. Gate Crashers head for the barriers, so stopping them matters more than continuing to shoot a distant target that is not threatening the gate.

During preparation, place Hunting Installations in the available positions. Manned installations require you to operate them; automatic ones provide support. Limited installations have their own restrictions, so save them for a useful opening rather than treating them as permanent turrets.

Use the right tool at the right time

Situation Useful response
A monster is pushing toward a gate Interrupt or repel it; Ballista Retreat Shot can push targets back
You have a clear head shot with the Ballista Crag Shot can build stun
A Counter Signal is active Leave the installation and use your hunter’s weapon to benefit from the attack boost
Equipment needs recovery Power Kilns help reload and repair installations

These are mechanical priorities, not a requirement to reproduce one exact placement layout.

Understand the Counter Signal

A Counter Signal raises hunter attack power, with its strength depending on the Stronghold level. Signals occur automatically at certain points; the Counter Gong also activates one when available.

You cannot use the Gong during preparation or while a Signal is already active. Once destroyed, it cannot simply be replaced. Read the remaining Signal time before deciding whether to return to an installation.

Repelling is not always the finish

Most invading monsters are repelled and cannot be carved. The final Major Threat must be slain, so continue the fight until the quest actually completes rather than expecting every retreat to end the Rampage.

If this is The Blue Apex on your progression route, completing the earlier Special License Test has only opened the urgent. You still need to clear this Rampage to advance; see the progression guide.
